Default Greetings from flyover country

Hi all

I am new to this site. I was "raised" methodist. I was forced to attend church by my parents until I was high school aged. One of my earliest memories is sitting in church and thinking, what a joke. I have made it my mission to challenge people to think about their faith whenever I get the chance.

In the past I worked as a college professor, and a computer programmer. I am fascinated by all things Russian, especially the Stalin era. I am happy to visit about most anything.

BTW, please, which SF writer was it who invented Sun Dogs? I kinda forget; was it Terry Pratchett or another one?

Greetings!

Gurdur, I don't believe it was Pratchett, as I don't recognise the reference. I suspect you're thinking of 'barking dogs'.

Nope, my brain isn't quite that addled yet, thank-you very much!
I just had a vague memory of Terry Pratchett having a small bit on Sun Dogs in his very very early novel The Dark Side Of The Sun, a non-Discworld SF-ish novel, but Terry looks to have given what is probably the origin there with Stephen King.

Note for others: "barking dogs" was the name for the proto-cannon in Pratchett's Discworld-novel Interesting Times.

Now I suppose I will have to go back and re-read The Dark Side Of The Sun to see what it was that triggered my memory.

Ah, I'd forgotten about The Dark Side of the Sun. Didn't really enjoy it that much when I read it. Perhaps I should read it again...

There's always a reason to re-read a "Pratchett", if only because of your lack of memory......

It is the center of the country, since people that spend all their time on the coasts just "fly over" it when going from coast to the other.
