Default Xian Comedians Question (esp. Samples)

(Cross-posted from Internet Infidels)

Greetings, savage, unprincipled heathens!

I was wondering if anyone here can get away from the kittens in the oven long enough to tell me anything they know about xian comedians -- especially if I can find transcripts, samples, etc.

So far all I've seen is one New Yorker article on Brad Stine, plus there's a new movie about them at my video store called Thou Shalt Laugh! (Of course, I don't want any of them to make any of my money from video rental, plus my public library doesn't own a copy and no one's commented on the Internet Movie Database.)

I'm especially curious about how they're having and getting laughs at atheists' expense. I fully defend the right to humor as a matter of free speech, but nonetheless would like to know how we're being mocked in the enemy camp.

Any assistance gratefully appreciated as always. Thanks -- DD

It's hard to even imagine, because religious fundamentalism doesn't leave much room for irony or humour. I shall endeavour to find this out for both of us, DD, through my formidable Google skills and wide array of Christian contacts in the real world.

Cheers,

There used to be a Xian website & board called the "Ship Of Fools" who would have or could provide exactly the info you need --- they are a Christian board who satirise Christian fundies. I don't know if they still exist, since I had a run-in there and gave up on the place.

Ah, a quick search turns up that they still exist. Here you go with a link. Ask them.

I checked a little around their site just now, and they have a fair few good links as well; and it would probably be well-worth your while (depending on how much you want the info) to join their board and ask your question there.

Sorry, but I won't do it; like I said, I gave up on 'em (long story).

Cheers,
I joined the Ship Of Fools years and years ago; it's barely possible that I joined even before IIDB, which would make it at least eight or more years ago. I had a run-in with one mod, a USA Christian Libertarian, and then a consequent run-in with the prat of an admin/owner (a Brit), so I simply decided I didn't like the place enough to keep visiting and posting. I didn't make any fanfare (no point), I simply stopped going there.

The whole board went down not long after, after the admin couldn't get enough donations to pay for it; it was down around maybe a year, maybe longer, then the same admin started it up again. He must have convinced more to donate for it.

The current Pope is certainly trying to be a comedian, calling for all religions to work together whilst in Turkey, especially considering his comments about Catholisms being the only true religion except Orthodox Christianity, all of the others were not true religions.

Well if you're talking about Christains who are comedians or comedians who are Christians ( I'm not sure there's a difference BWTH ) there are a whole long line of them.

Off the top of my head I can think of Harry Seacombe and Bob Monkhouse as two fine examples.

I don't think either of them made specific jokes about atheism or agnosticism ( though BM made a joke about nearly everything ). Like most Christians they fell into the 'Live and let Live' catagory.

They were just decent people.
