Another Historical Apology

This is an apology from the gov'ts of Australia and Britain to those who were shipped out of Britain long ago as forced laborers---

I understand the sentiments involved, but I have mixed feelings about such historically retroactive "apologies" for things people today never had anything remotely to do with. I can see the symbolism, but no gov't today ever had any connection with what happened. I find it appalling that it was still being done the year I graduated high school. This is the first time I've ever heard of this practice.

I know this is a very controversial issue. What are your thoughts on the matter?

If it didn't stop until 1967, then many of the officials involved are still alive. We might ask them to do a little explaining.
