Please save your Custom Smilies

If you're using the Custom Smilies hack, please save all your custom smilies to a folder on your PC, and that very soon.

Once the upgrade happens, I will be reordering the whole collection of HH smilies into a far more manageable order, to also make loading the page of "More" smilies much much more faster, as well as easier to use.

I will also be putting a general Upload Manager in, so you can easily upload files (including smilies you have found yourself) to an HH depository; that and the new smiley management system will totally replace the system we have at the moment, including the Custom Smiley hack.

The Custom Smiley Hack will be de-installed just before the upgrade (so in several days from now), because it has a couple of bad bugs in it, and its job can be done better by the new system to be put into place along with the upgrade.

I haven't even looked at the latest upgrade yet because there's nothing I can do about it right now anyway, is it included or add-on?

No, I don't believe that will be the case.

The Custom Smiley hack (at least in the incarnation which I used here; there is a more recent patch which changes things, which I am now glad I did NOT install) inserts an ...URL... into posts, rather than a databank call through some code like :glug: .

That means the ...URL... is permanently become part of the posts, and is an absolute URL call rather than a databank call; and since the custom smilies have all been physically uploaded into the HH directory, they all stay there and are not removed, so the smilies physically remain, and their URL's remain valid.

It's just that they will not appear in the smiley menu in the Postbit. What I will do after the upgrade is enable people to upload smilies, and then I will incorporate the smilies into a general menu.

I'm using a Smiley Category hack to have groups of smilies delineated by text links in the main "More" smiley menu, so that one has to go through the text link for a particular group of smilies, and gets only that group; this means they're not all loaded when the "More" smilies page is loaded, which means much much faster loading (given the large number of smilies).

If you like, I can give you the vBulletin.org link to the hack; when the upgrade is all done, I will be making a full Credits list for public display of all hacks, graphics and whatnot.
